Reece Inspires Me

It’s hard to believe that it is the Fourth of July and Reece is still in the hospital.  Time just passes by at this point; I’ve accepted that this is where we need to be and whatever Reece needs, we support him.  However, when I think back to his transplant taking place in January, it just doesn’t seem real.

About 10 minutes after I posted my last post (Sunday night), Reece had another septic episode.  By Monday morning, we were unsure that he would make it another day.  It is likely that he has another infection going on in his body.  Nothing has cultured back positive yet, but there is no other explanation for the episode.  His blood pressures were low–so low that he hardly tolerated being rotated in the bed.  The BMT doctors were actually in tears with us about his health status.

Both of our families came into town to spend the day at the hospital yesterday.  Reece, however, has done remarkably well the last 36 hours.  He has stabilized which is a good sign.  The adenovirus cultures continue to show lower amounts in the blood.  Certainly, if he has other infections going on, he has quite a battle with that alone.  He continues to fight and we will support him through it.  When I look at him, I feel so thankful to be his mom and proud of how well he has done.  He has amazed us all time and time again.  Reece inspires me.

We have been checking your blog constantly for updates. I took a moment to read some earlier posts about Reece and how hopeful things were in the early days. Your family has been on such a roller coaster but it seems like Reece has always pulled through! This is hopeful! Very hopeful! Hugs to you all!

  3. We are praying for you all! And you are right to feel inspired… We should all feel that way by the things that our boys have faced over these many months.

    • I completely agree, Leslie! We think of you and Jacob often–such a road to recovery. The word courageous doesn’t even do it justice. Lifting your family up as well.
